Default Monte Carlo Bar

Hello all
I am new here but have to confess i have been reading this forum for about 6 months and have got a lot of good ideas and information. I have a question about monte carlo bars. The one i have fits between the fenders perfect but only one of the top bolts line up and the vertical piece is too short to get to the second bolt. I'm wondering if they sent me a 67 bar instead of a 65 or if there is even a difference. If not i guess its time to fire up the torch and welder and do some fabrication. Thanks in advance for your help

Odd - usually you have to unload the suspension and jack the car up by the front crossmember to get the bar to slip in.

The Monte carlo bars are set to the stock width of the engine compartment. I'd take a very close look at the front end before hitting it with a torch to see where the problem actually is.

Pictures?

I looked at the bar this weekend and maybe i could drill new holes in it to match the holes in the towers

I think you have the wrong bar bud...

The 67/68 bar has the notch in it to get around that bump in the inner fender. The 64-66 mustangs didn't need it so the ends of the bar are mirror images of eachother. That could be why it's not fitting for you.

I'll get a picture of what I'm talking about tomorrow morning. Till then, try to hold off on drilling.

Edit:

The highlighted area is the notch I'm talking about. On the 64-66 bars they are straight... not notched.

Here is a link to an ebay auction where you can see what 64-66 ends should look like:Ebay Montecarlo bar

Maybe you ought to have the car fully assembled with the engine in it. That way the car is sitting in the right position for it. Just a though i had.

At this time the susp has been reinstalled and the engine and tranny are back in the car. The car is back on all four wheels after several years on jackstands.

No problem Silver Ponys

It's Nice to be able to pay back some of the help I picked up from forums when I was building mine.

Good luck and let us know how that new bar works out!

C!
