Hopping up a 170

I was just wondering how many horses could i get out of a 170, and whats the best cam, head, and intake for it, and where to get them from. Thank you

around 50 hp total, if you want to accelerate quick change your gears to 350's.

50 hp, i thought they came with 105 hp?

If you are intent on hopping up an I6 Ford engine, go to the 200 CID unit. The 170 does not support the crankshaft nearly as well as the 200. My advice, however, is to get a V8 - more horses- less hassle - cheaper.
Best,
Al

The 170 has 4 bearings and is not recommend to be modded. The 200 (7 bearings) or 289 on the other hand can be modded much easier. If you want to make it accelerate faster switching the gears to 4.10s or something similar will help to do so. Then switch your headers and get dual exhaust for sound. Edelbrock makes the best intake manifolds by far. I wouldn't recommend internally modding a 170 though. I am not a pro so If I have made any mistakes please do correct me. Thanks

Check out www.fordsix.com and www.classicinlines.com as they have a lot of info. You will want to go to the 200ci if you want any kind of real power. If you do go that way then there are some pretty good power gains to be had.

Edelbrock's rather extensive line of really good intakes will do you no good, as the 6 cylinder head has the intake cast on the head and cannot be replaced without extensive machine work.
Best,
Al
