Default Barn Find 67 Fastback

I have 2 questions. I am in the process of buying a 1967 Fastback Mustang that hasn't been registered for 36 years. I live in California. Are the fees to register it going to be outrageous ? the other question. how much is something like this worth ? 1967 Fastback GT--4spd-all numbers match--everything original including paint and interior--been in a garage for 36 years-engine runs good-rear end good-clutch is out--gas tank needs to be dropped due to sitting so long--has less than 10,000 original miles.

There shouldn't be any fees after 9 years I think.

It could be worth quite a bit with 10k original and original everything.

Where in Ca are you?

the seller is lying. the speedo has rolled over so it has 110,000.

if the body is mint and it is a small block with old paint and interior and is rust free its worth around $17k.

i hope the car is registered to the seller.

if not they are likely a car flipper so i might have it independently inspected first.

they used to charge 3 years of back fees plus penalties so maybe around $700.00 plus tax depending on your claimed sales price etc..

We cant be certain he is lying....

there would be some things to check.

We could look at spark plugs...are they original?
tires are they original?
If someone had a fancy borescope we could check cylinder walls
we could look at brake wear
The inside of the dizzy cap!! thats an easy one

what else can you think of that would be a good indicator of being brand new?

they're lying lol. when they say thay have 10k orig miles they are ALWAYS lying.

feel the brake pedal. if it is hard as a rock it is orig. if it has wear on it, it has 110k miles.

if it is new it has 110k miles because the orig should still be good with only 10k miles, therefore the fact that it was changed strongly suggests the other one was worn and the seller is trying to cover it up.

if the carpet mat has a wear from a heel by the gas pedal it has 110k. if it does not it might have had mats and still have 110k.

they still make the orig spark plugs.

the dist cap should say motorcraft and have brass pins not aluminum ones.

the wires should have the firing order on them.

the belts should have motorcraft raised embossed on them.

if it has the orig keys the teeth should be very sharp. not dull from the pins wearing them down.

it might have a gas/mileage records.

There's a good chance of that...but.

where are you reading that brakes were changed?

Says clutch is "out" we dont know if its out due to wear or mechanical failure of something...Is that a mechanical linkage on those or hydraulic?

If it really only had 10k it should be pretty easy to verify that by looking at a few things vs those items at 110k.

Wow. I guess i was always skeptical also. the Owner died. 1 owner car. the license plate still has the 1976 sticker. it was in a garage for 37 years. had a layer of dust 1/2 inch thick. tires were flat and the brakes were frozen. the car was towed to a shop. all fluids drained. it started right up. no problems. 3rd trip down the block the clutch stopped engaging. it has less than 10k miles verified.

exactly how is the mileage "verified". look at the items i and gun jam suggested. paperwork is forged every day. back in 67 that would typically have been a primary car, if so it typically belonged to someone that had a job so they would have driven it to work. 10,000 miles in 10 years and it was registered every year means they likely drove it every one of those years.

thats 1,000 miles a year or 80 MILES A MONTH. I'm not buyin it, lol.

unless that car is $30,000.00 it is 110k miles guaranteed. there is nobody stupid enough these days to sell a clean 67 gt 4 speed fastback with only 10k verified miles for any less. it just doesn't happen, but hey if you believe it, that's ok it's your money.

i'll tell you what, i'll give you $25k in cash right now if its clean and i determine they have reasonable proof the mileage is real. this is a real offer.
