did ford ever factory install 4 tail lights in 1965
I hate to ask this question because I know I will get rocked. I ran across a 1964 1/4 mustang convertible yesterday . A 83 year old woman who purchased the car in 1965 as a gift for her husband upon returning from Vietnam. She called it a 65 but as I looked close it was a converted generator car, had the correct 64 1/2 headlight buckets, correct hood , the louvered radiator support. My question is ... she told me before letting me look at it. " It is a special car, it has 4 tail lights" I thought Ford never did that? She insisted that it was like that when she bought the car new. I raised the trunk and looked at the rear panel, it looks like it was stamped , not cut around all 4 tail lights, the wiring harness was not cut yet it had extra plug ends that were correct for the 64 1/2. (All bullet ends)
I know, I know.. I am the first to say " ford never did that " BUT could she be correct?
It was burgundy, white top and white seats. V8 Automatic.
The car was purchased from a ford dealer in Auburn Alabama. She is looking for the pictures of the car in 1965 when she first gave the car to her husband.
Either way I should have possesion of the car in the next few weeks as I made her an offer and she told me she thought she would sell it . It is like most early mustangs that was put out to pasture, rough, rusted and ready for a restoration.

OK.. I knew I would get some remark that was not nice.. Look she may be mistaken, or the dealer may have done something strange , or she may just not recall. BUT please keep your personal attack on her to yourself. THe answer is yes, no, or I do not know.
I have a collection of over 35 mustangs, and a few very rare Dodge products. If I told you that Dodge built a 1970 dodge challenger 383 with a factory 2x4 carb set up you would call me a liar as well.. They built 7 I have one.
Point is.... She may have been mistaken and time may be not on her side.. BUT I will be back over at her house next week and take pictures of the car, I also most likly will just purchase the car and do a fallow up on the uniqueness of the car.
IT is just a simple question , thank you for the respect and your replies.

I agree that lying is a strong term, but intended or not, there most probably is some element of untruth in her remarks. I don't believe that Ford ever built such a car for public consumption. It obviously has been changed in other ways from what would be considered original, what with the alternator in place of the generator. That being said, my old adage is that you can never say that Ford always built it this way or never built it that way. There are a lot of undocumented creations from the factory or the dealership. Sounds like you have a lot of experience with classic cars. Why bother getting opinions from all of us "unwashed" opionators. Good luck. The car sounds interesting.

Hell, you never know with FoMoCo.
You said the extra holes are stamped and the wiring looks correct and unless Granny is a known ner' do well then I would give her the benefit of the doubt and at least believe that she believes it.
Since it's an early Mustang maybe it was a design mule to flesh out some ideas for dealer options or maybe it was a just a kit that somebody bought from JC Whitney back in the day.

I am working on the pictures. Also ,I took a trip to Charlotte over the weekend to attend the 50th. Birthday of Mustang. It was not as good as I had hoped because of the rain. BUT I did get to talk to a bunch o people who owned " one off cars", cars with parts installed "incorrectly" That are 100% original. Cars that the Mustang club of America had told owners " those bolts have the incorrect markings on them" Only to find that they are one owner cars, never modified, less than 10,000 on one ( factory drag CJ car)
Point is... never say never and if it is incorrect.... so be it. I will be making an effort to go photograph and hopefully " Purchase" the car this week. I will post the results. I do not need another project .. BUT hey.. What will one more hurt ? Right?

Do you see the word "OR"? It's the one that starts with "O' and ends with "R".
unless you have PROOF your mopar came with that set up from the factory it did not as far as a buyer is concerned but i wouldn't call you a liar. i happen to know quite a lot about mopars. i know galen govier personally and guess what...he knows me, big deal. also, dealer installed is not the same as factory installed. not saying yours was dealer installed because i obviously do not know. i have also seen a TON of forged documents.
why don't you post photos of proof that your car came with dual quads, we all like cars here, it would be fun to see.
there are more 69 z28's and big block vettes now then were produced, how did that happen huh?
i see restamped blocks all the time.
you asked for help i gave it to you.
its intelligent to be skeptical of any sellers story.
now that you have tried to impress us all with your volume of cars, guess what...NOBODY CARES. its not a polite thing to boast like that ESPECIALLY when lots of people are loosing their homes or have to sell their beloved cars due to the economy.
also there is nothing unique about a 64.5 convertible unless some moron ruins the tail panel by installing an extra set of rail lites, lol.
heres a short sequence of photos on how to ruin a perfectly good highly collectible 50 year old piece of automotive history.

we can say what we want but you don't have to believe it. i also suggest you don't come here and ask questions then tell me or others what to say.
i already said it is incorrect so what is your point of asking us what we think if you don't believe us. it is now obvious that you wanted us to say it was real simply because you want so desperately to believe it is, lol.
nice, more flaunting of your vast wealth. i guess when you already have at least 40 cars, one more won't make much difference. you have soooo much class.
