Default Clueless - How do I identify components?

Long story short, yesterday I came home with a 64 1/2 stang that is far from original. I also barely know how to change my own oil, but that's changing fast. Luckily, I have a few friends who know a lot more than me and I'm hoping y'all can help out too.

Anyway, I figure one of the first things I should do is inventory what parts it already has so moving forward I can plan accordingly...except I don't really know how to identify everything without totally taking it apart.

The intake manifold had enough labeling on it to figure out, but I guess what I'm wondering is if there are some numbers or something that I should look for to identify stuff?

Sorry if I'm not making any sense.

You chose an excellent car to teach yourself mechanics. These cars are simple to work on with basic tools, have no computers or ECM, and lack much of the smog mandates. Have fun with it, and enjoy your new coupe.

The carb is a holley 4150 style

many carbs are holly 4150 style regardless of whether or not they are holly carbs.
For example the QFT Hr-600 is a holly 4150 style carb.

Your carb appears to be a mechanical secondary setup but I cant really tell from the picture.

A great way to figure out what parts are and what they are called is to grab an NPD or CJ Pony Parts catalog and learn it, live it & love it.

Thanks for the support and especially thanks to Gun_Jam for some input on what could be seen in my low-quality pictures.

What I know so far:

351W Engine
I *believe* it is pulled from a '69 Mustang, and not a later production/crate engine. It's painted blue if that means anything to anyone.

Holley 4160 Carb with 750CFM
Between Gun_Jam's comment, the list number, and this site, I was able to figure that one out.

Edelbrock Performer RPM 351W Intake Manifold
The bold writing made this one fairly obvious, the picture match sealed the deal.

After that, it gets less specific:

Edelbrock Heads
The cover on the heads has the Edelbrock brand name/logo. Can't really picture match without taking it all apart - which ain't gonna happen - and there's no clear numbers that I can find. I hope it's from the same Performer RPM series, but that's just a guess.

"Performance" Cam
I inherited the car from my dad, who knew less about cars than I do. He was proud of the "performance" cam, though I never got or retained more info than that. Possibly also Edelbrock Performer RPM?

Flowmaster Exhaust/Muffler?
In the trunk are two packets with Flowmaster bumper stickers and generic registration cards.

Tubular Automotive Headers??
Sticker for them in the trunk.

Final notes:

* AOD transmission that's wrecked and needs to be replaced anyway

* Disc brakes in front, drum in back (with issues)

* air bag suspension in rear, recently replaced

* shot shocks in the front

750 cfm is a buttload of carb especially if its mechanical secondary. If its a vacuum secondary system might not be as bad.

Does it run okay? If yes dont worry about it...

Well..it's complicated.

Last time I had the car it was my daily driver. It ran fan for a single trip or if I took it out on the highway, but if I was running errands around town with lots of stop and go and start-ups there were definitely problems. From idle it would start running bad, sometimes stalling out. Usually I could feel it coming and revving the engine would keep it going for a bit longer. Starting up after a couple errands would end up requiring pumping the gas first, and occasionally giving it gas while starting it.

BUT -- no one had told me I was supposed to be using ethanol-free fuel. I "knew" it needed "premium" (I now know it needs 93 Octane & has 10:1 compression) but had no clue about the ethanol thing.

Since then the carb has been cleaned out (and possibly rebuilt?), but the transmission is wrecked and I can't get out of first gear. So I can start it up and move it in the driveway, but that's about it.

Once I get in a new transmission and replace the front shocks, we'll find out how well everything else is actually doing.
