Default Classic Upgrades

So, asked in another tech section didn't notice this one. Long story short i wanted to take a foxbody and donate all the good into a 65 coupe.

So Suspension, Rear End, Brakes, Engine, Trans.

Is this possible and not terribly custom, or is there anything that i can be done with?

That is a very open ended question.

Some things are easy, some things aren't (depending on your skill level)

The engine, trans, rear (depend on year/model fox body) are pretty straight forward in terms of simple getting the right mounts, swap headers, plumbing, oil pan, pickup, etc
The brakes are doable but require custom brackets and you will most likely need to swap master cylinders, add a proportioning valve, etc... (assuming you don't have a 65 that came with stock disc brakes upfront....in which case you wouldn't really need to swap stuff from the fox)

The suspension....not soo much.

Front seats can be bolted into the 65 by swapping tracks.

If it is a 5 lug pony you can swap the wheels but you will need bolt on adapters to correct the backspacing for use on the 65.

What part of PA are you from? The SEPA region is ripe with plenty of mustang enthusiasts (including myself) and clubs who are always willing to lend and hand and help out.

Assuming this is a later model fox...

Where you thinking you would keep the EFI? It is easy enough to swap intakes and run a carb if you wanted to.

Staying with the serpentine setup or do you want to keep a stock bracket look to front of the motor? If you want to stay stock looking you will need a new water pump and timing cover for the assumed 302 motor out of the mustang.
T5 or AOD?

8.8 or 9 in the fox right now?

What model 65 mustang are you starting with? Is it originally a v8 car or formerly an I6?

its inline 6, 4lugs front and back. I don't have the fox right now just figured the common enough to find one that was wrapped around a tree that will donate it hearts. As for skill I don't have tools to do custom brackets but have the sense to install prefabbed brackets and do engine swaps and such.

As for front and rear I want the front switched to 5 lug disc along with the back.

was looking to get a 5.0 / 5spd car.

It is a little more involved with a 65/6 I6 car because all the suspension and steering generally need to get replaced for a proper v8 conversion and to do that on those cars you need to swap spindles.

So even if you can get the front discs from the fox to work with some brackets you still need to get v8 spindles, springs, tie rods, center link, etc...

Once you get the correct spindles you can get nice brackets here from mustang steve that let you use late model....but they aren't fox brakes
http://www.mustangsteve.com/cobrabrakes.html

The rear from the fox should give you 5 lug....but it will be wider and require different offset/backspacing for wheels/tires than a typical stock 65. Car craft indicates the 8.8 is 31/48-inch wider than the stock 8-inch 67 rear which means it would be about 1 31/48 wider than a 65 mustang rear. I also believe you will need to weld/move leaf spring perches. I have no direct experience here but there a few discussions about it on various mustang forums

And on edit....based on this...it sounds like you wouldn't even need to worry about the perches

The engine and transmission from those Mustangs are transplanted all the time into 65/66 Mustangs. Loose the EFI, a carbureted setup is definitely the way to go.

Aftermarket brackets are available for both engine/transmission installation online. MustangsPlus in CA for example could help you with the parts necessary.
