Default Yoke question

Ok so i order a yoke from summit to go with my new AOD and they sent me the wrong one (again)

I have no other solution but to use my old yoke that was on my c4.

See photos and tell me how long does the yoke need to be inserted into the AOD and if I have adequate length.

Old yoke that was on the driveshaft connected to c4. Measures 4.5 inches.

Larger yoke that doesn't fit measuring 5 inches in length and splines all the way to the end.

Old yoke has splines stop about 1/2 inch from end.

How many splines does each have?

Both 28 spline.just the width of the one is too big for the u joint. I'm assuming it's for a car with larger driveshaft and u joints.

Yes, there are different cap sizes and u-joints. You need to know what you have and what you can get to make it work.

Ok my question is, as you see the photos, my shaft has the new U joints on and I've hooked it to my old yoke (one I had on car before swapping out c4 to AOD). Yoke has 4 1/2 inches on it. Teeth start 1/2 inch in so leaves 4 inches. An inch for -/+ play. This leaves 3 inches into the tail shaft. Say 2 1/2 to 3 inches into the tail shaft. Is this adequate ??

I don't see any u-joints in your pix, btw.
With the cars weight on all 4 tires, or simulated, the proper driveline length is as follows; slide the slip yoke all the way in until it stops, and then back it out between 3/4" to 1". The rear u-joint should be at the proper location with respect to the pinion yoke. Most likely your drive shaft is not the right length as IIRC, the AOD is longer than a C4?

Yes I measures exactly like that as the AOD is longer. Took driveshaft to machine shop and had it shortened. Just wanted to know if 2.5 - 3 inches of yoke into tail shaft is enough?

Here it is installed and sitting on suspension. It has 1 1/2 inches play and in the tail shaft 3 inches. Is that ok?

I would run the car up to speed while securely on jackstands and see if there are vibrations at different speeds. If there are, have an observer watch this area to see if it gets 'blurred' during the vibration event. If so, there is a problem with it.
BTW, that looks like the old yoke in the tranny, not the new one.

I called machine shop, gonna take it back to have him add .6" to it. I don't like knowing that it exceeds the normal length.

As for the yoke, yea the new one doesn't fit the U joints. It's made for the 1330 type and mine have the smaller ones. Anyway i don't want to mess around trying to cut corners and regret it later on.

I always go by the rule, measure twice cut once but hell knows what happened here!
