Default shock tower crack

I was cleaning up the fender well area of my 1970 mustang and found this crack to the shock tower area. It is in the side of the shock tower that faces the radiator support on the passenger side. My question is, is this something that I can just put a weld on to close or do I need to replace the shock tower component completely? I don't know what caused the crack but it doesn't appear to be in an area that would be exposed to a great deal of movement or force.

Yes you can weld it up. Clean weld area up really good first. Drill small holes at the ends of the cracks, that will stop the crack from spreading any more and then weld it up.

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking that but just wanted to get a 2nd opinion.

IIRC there is also a recommended shock tower reinforcement weld of some sort.

You can get paperback versions of the Boss chassis modification manual from the racing days in the late 60's and early 70's, has quite a few reinforcing tips in it.

Some of the suspension stuff has been outmoded to a degree by technology, but it has some good tips for chassis tweaks.
