ignition system
although it may be a while before i ever drive or get my 69er on the strip i want my baby to be ready. most of my ignition system is pretty ugly and it wouldn't hurt to be replaced. but what is better:
MSD Ignition System or Petronix Flamethrower
i know there are variations of each. like i have seen a milion diferent MSD setups. i originally thought about getting the Flamethrower II coil and Ignitor II. but know i've seen the MSD ignition a little more often. anyone here have any oppinions? also, if i do get the flamethrower, should i go with oil-filled or epoxy-filled for the coil?

for normal street use, i would go with the pertronix ignition, wit hthe flame thrower coil. It gets rid of stock points, is reliable, cheap and easy to install. The MSD is more for racing, i have never used one before, but i do have the pertronix in my car. It is hidden, except an extra red wire, which can be hidden very easily, and like it says on the box, never change points again!
My two cents. I currently have a petronix (only for another day or so). I installed a MSD 6A box with it. The petronix worked great, no problems and the car seemed to run much better. I however sheared the shear pin in my distributor. I am running more than twice the HP that the engine (351C) originally had. So I just bought the MSD distributor - the shear pin is a lot thicker. If you are running slightly more than stock HP, I would go with the petronix - I would also get a rebuilt distributor -they are only like $39 from Autozone with a core. If you are going to rod it out, and you have an auto trans, I would (AM) going with the MSD.
thanks guys. i believe the original distributor from '74 is still on there though. it works well but the rest of the system could use replacing. the current coil is totally rusted over. all the wiring is dirty and somewhat exposed. already replaced solenoid. next is the alternator...
i plan to make this pony a true Mustang and have some fun. it is a Mach I after all. so i guess MSD then. also, what is the deal with rev control? what happens when the engine hits that set RPM, stall?
