Default No 3rd gear

Hello all. New to the fourm and have a problem with my transmission. It's a 70's c4 (had the tab on the filter) no exactly sure what year it is. Anyways I was driving down the road and 1st and second gear were shifting working fine and then it shifted into 3rd and just slipped like crazy. Wouldn't even move just revved. Is it the clutches? Or could it be something else? It is leaking pretty bad around the dip stock tube and shift selector. It also has a shift kit installed and has always slipped in the 2nd-3rd shift. Thanks for the input!

pull it apart, it shouldnt slip at all, you have a leak internally or warn clutches, time for a rebuild

Well I got it rebuilt, everything working all gears and everything, but it slips going 2-3. Any idea why?? Iv adjusted the bands a bit and did an air check while rebuilding the transmission.

you missed something, or cut a seal on reassembly. did you measure your clutch pack stack ups and make sure that they are within spec?

Yes everything was within spec. Didn't touch the valve body though

you should make sure that you diassemble the valve body and inspect for broken sprinhs and damaged seperator plate gaskets. even a small piece of dirt can stick a valve. the valves should move freely. also, makes sure you get a good manual on the valve body check ball locations, they tend to fall out on disassembly

It has a shift kit it and wasn't sure about it. And Tbh don't really want to mess with it. I think I'll just buy one.

you could always pull the valve body off, ant take it to a trans shop and have them go through it, a valve body for a c4 might be hard to find

Stock ones are hard to find. There are plenty after market ones with shift kits installed already
