Default Side Exhaust

So after 6 long years my 65 project is almost done. I am looking to purchase an exhaust and get this thing on the road very soon. Almost all the mustangs that I see have the exhaust over the axle and out the rear. Is there any reason why you could not make it come out the side near the rear tire? Has anyone ever done this? Is there any reason why it is not that popular?

I had it out the side for years. There could be clearance issues if you lower your car, like over speed bumps. Another issue for me was during warm up, water born carbon staining on garage wall or the car to the side. I had to push the car outside before starting. It did look killer though, especially with the slant cut tips.

I had it that way on my 66 for about 2 years. i liked the look but when driving with the windows down and sitting at lights i would almost pass out from the fumes. i loved the look though.
at this time, i have an x pipe and then the mufflers with down tubes dumping it below the car. it sounds great but i still get fumes. not as bad as before but still fumes

That would be a downside while cruising, all the fumes

I didn't have fume issues while driving, especially at mach1 speed
If I did it again I would angle them at 30-45 degrees like the old gt350s IIRC.
