Default car is hard to stop

hello everyone.
I recently purchased a 66 mustang , 6 cyl, auto. The brakes are working the way they were designed to back in 66. Is there a power booster I can install that would help stop the car a litte easier? the car has 4 wheel drum brakes. Thank you.

There definitely is. What is your budget. I got a whole front disc brake conversion kit with a booster, dual master cylinder, etc for I wanna say 1k?? It's been like 8 years since I installed them. Love them. Worth every penny.

If you are going to stay with the drum for budget reasons, I would at least get the booster and a dual master cylinder.

Just my 2 cents

Yeah the front brake disc conversion kit is your best bet. My kit was around 1,200.

Forgot to mention I used SSBC (stainless steel brake conversion???) for my front disc brake conversion.

the ssbc cast iron calipers are crap because the cross over line is in the wrong location so they can't be bled on the car.

how do you know they are working as good as they did when they were new? . this is doubtful.

Works good = stop's a lot damn faster than drum brakes
Works good = parts haven't failed
Works good = brake pedal hasn't got mushy yet

Hence, my definition of works good.

4 wheel drums are so 2nd millenia...I consider front disks a required safety feature, power or not.

the best safety feature is called defensive driving . dont follow 10 feet behind another car at 90 mph . if you do you deserve what you get if they slam on their abs brakes.

manual brakes are in fact more effective than disc brakes UNLESS they get wet.

.

I have SSBC on my 66 I can bleed them with the wheels on...They have been working fine for the last 10 years daily driven...Hell they are hot right now from that last freeway exit. Always stops straight and predictable no bad habits.
