Default Seized front drum

The right front drum is seized on my 65. Any way to take off other than a hammer?

Try backing off the adjusters through the backing plate with a brake spoon or screwdriver.

Then hit it with a hammer

Hit the front though, not the lip or it could break

Some of the aftermarket drums have 2 threaded holes in them, these are used to run screws into to back out the drum. I don't think the factory drums had them.

Are you sure it is the drum and not the hub bearings that are seized? You just can't remove the drum, you must take the cotter pin out of the spindle nut then remove the nut and the bearings come off with the drum. It is different than the back drums which are held on by the lug nuts.

bop11 makes a good point. Most of my drum brake cars have had the drums replaced so many times this is no longer true. Original front drums were anchored to the hubs bu the studs.

This was the key thing that I was missing. I didn't realize this until I did a bit of research on the internet. I backed off the adjuster to make the drum easier to get back on after I cleaned it out. It was quite rusty.
