302 Header

Default 302 Header

What is the best long or short tube header for a base 1970 Mustang Coupe with a 302 and C4 transmission. It is equipped with power steering and A/C and I want to get a header that will not interfere with any of the brackets or crossmembers. The car will be a driver and will never see the track so I'm more concerned with fit than anything else.

I'm surprised you haven't gotten a response on this. You get what you pay for with headers. A good set of ceramic coated Doug Thorley's or JBA's will set you back $600+, but they always fit. I personally have always used Thorley for their thick flange, great seal, and fit, and never had a problem. I encourage you to spend a few dollars and get quality, and avoid the inexpensive headers.

Yeah, don't go cheap. I have JBA shorties on mine, mainly for clearance issues due to fitment and lowering...but I'm more concerned about cornering than max power at peak rpm.

Thanks for the advice. My main concern is that they fit with the A/C and power steering. I have heard stories of guys that had spent a lot of money on headers only to have clearance issues with the original equipment.

Most header clearance issues are going to be ground clearance, or manual trans issues with the z-bar, or possibly clearing aftermarket bellhousings etc. LT's tend to be a pia, and most manufacturers are lazy and don't bother to take the time to make the headers fit properly....only 'good enough.'
