Default Leaking fuel sending unit

Hello all. Merry Christmas. I was hoping you guys could offer up some wisdom. I recently replaced my gas tank and the fuel sending unit in my 1966 mustang coupe. Initially, there was no leaks. Now there is a small leak coming from the fuel sending unit. I am going to replace the rubber gasket.

Are there any tricks to keeping these things from leaking?

I had the retaining ring seated, although I didn't bend down any of the bronze tabs. Are you supposed to bend down the bronze tabs to keep the retaining ring in place?

Thanks for the help.

Are you saying the ring has rotated loose?
IIRC, mine just stopped when it was tight and required force to go back...

Yes, the ring rotated loose. I guess I didn't have it seated fully.
