Default '66 engine

My name is Jaden. I'm needing a whole engine and transmission for the mustang but don't know where to get one at a low price. Either a 289 or 302 v8. A lot of the rebuilt engines are pricy and didn't know if there is another way to get an engine.

Do you have existing pieces, or did you buy a chassis with no engine/trans?

Bummer. Engine accessories would have been nice to have.

Your best bet would be if you could come up with a low mileage 5.0HO motor and matching transmission out of an 85-93 Mustang, or possibly a Lincoln Mk VII. You'd need some additional pieces to get everything in your car, but it would make a good starting point if it was in good shape.

Granted, the likelihood of finding something like that is fairly low. And even if you find one, it's likely to have high mileage and require a rebuild.

Please understand that what you're asking for is not going to come cheap. Even once you come up with a rebuilt long block, you still need to set up a carb and ignition, alternator, p/s (if you have it), and a dozen or more other things to get everything installed and functional. And that doesn't even cover making sure the parts you already have function properly.

Jaden -

Do you have a budget in mind? It will be very easy to determine if you have the resources to complete your project as you described or tackle it in phases.

the lincoln mark 7 would be a good start. but id actually recommend a 96 to mid 1997 explorer 5.0 it comes with gt40 heads(98-01 has gt40p will work but needs special headers but you gotta buy headers anyways)

you can get the complete motor from a lkq on the last weekend of the month for about 100$ complete. sell the intake to a 5.0 mustang guy(its a gt40 style intake worth about 200$) sell all the front dress online.

use the money to buy a front sump oil pan and timing cover that will work. add a distributor compatible with a the roller cam(id add a cam personally this setup will easily make 300hp) then get yourself a transmission to drop in if you want overdrive you can get a 4r70w from a v6 99-04 mustang(it will require a stand alone controller though) or you can go old school and run a c4 etc
