Default C4 trans 1965 289ci coupe

Did all c4's have the kickdown linkage from the factory. my rebuild guy messed me up and can't find my original linkages. the linkage to the automatic shifter i understand, this kickdown linkage has me puzzled. what if i leave it off? what are the effects?

Yes, they did.

Your kickdown linkage is your 'passing gear'. I.e. when you stomp on the gas to go up hill or pass someone this pushes the transmission into the lower gear to get you going.

You'll also find that your 2-3 upshift is also very quick without it.

Now, you can live without it: When you want to pass someone you'll need to shift from the normal 'Drive' position on the gearshift (the donut) to the other one. The normal drive position starts off in second gear, and then shifts to 3rd. The other drive position is 1-2.

Lokar sells a full C4 kickdown kit. you'll need a few of their brackets to go with it. Hope this helps.
