68 mustang - staying w 4 bolt wheels
Hi guys,
I am looking at getting tires for the existing wheels, or a wheel and tire combo for the old 68 base coupe. 4 bolt. The web says its 4 x 144.3mm or 4 x 4.5 inches. Is that correct?
The tires that are on there now say 205/75/b14 on the fronts and 215/75/b14 on the rears. I am looking for a date code on them, but they are dry rotted and I had one leak out while sitting in the garage already.
When I search for those tires, I find a lot of trailer tires...
Anyone kept their 4 bolt 4 drum setup and got some new wheels and tires out there?

Alrighty, I went with some 205/70/r14 tires on walmart's site, and got them installed at the supercenter in town.
$326 out the door, which included an installation at $18 per tire.

That's a nice modern advantage with a classic look, proeagles.
Hey Nathan, good question.
I have pondered this a good bit. I am sticking w my wheels that are on there. But I have been searching for other 4 x 114.3mm (4 x 4.5in) variants that might do the trick. I believe that is the stock bolt pattern you should expect on your 4 bolt wheels. One thing to consider is the offset of the drum/hub mating surface to the back of the wheel. Although I am sure most fitments would come close, I'd steer clear of some aggressive rally wheels or something that puts the hub mating too far outboard.
I'm in the same boat as you and learning as I go.

Most people looking for decent wheels will go with a 5 lug conversion which allows all kinds of modern modifications to make the car better. Very common practice on Fox body mustangs. If you are trying to stay classic OEM it's going to be tough as I don't believe anyone makes 4 lug wheels any more for your application.
Looks like proeagles is right.
I just clicked on the banner ad for vintage wheels to see what they had.
1967 - 1968 : Vintage Wheels, Mustang, Hot Rod and Muscle Car (vintagewheelsus.com)
Looks like all 4 lug, and pricy.
