Steering Linkage
Bought a 66 coupe, 200 ci 6 cyl with ford power steering. Steering very sloppy; gearbox had zero lubrication and some rust inside, will be replacing it. Can't get pitman arm off, will be replacing it too.
Steering linkage parts for 6 cyl power steering are too expensive, example one outer tie rod is over $200.
Were the hole size in the steering knuckles fir the tie-rod ends the same for all types of steering linkage? Can I get rid of the power steering and just go with the V8 manual steering kit? Maybe install a Borgeson conversion later?
Thank you!

I had to replace my '68s' steering box for the very same reason, just last year!
Probably a Ford Granada-like disc brake kit - I put one on both my '68 and '66 Mustangs, but I changed over the entire 1966s' six cylinder system to V8 all at the same time - including the new disc brake kit.
I believe that the spindles DO have different diameter holes, but it would be worth investigating what you've got,...since you have 'mixed' parts. Perhaps your spindles can be machined with a larger Morse taper, if necessary (?) - I don't recall how much metal there is,...
The cars will accept either system, without alteration, but you can't 'mix and match' between the six, and eight, cylinder systems. One is thin, the other 'beefy',...
Very best of luck with your car!
