Decal placement
After getting eveything cleaned up and painted the correct colors and restored back to near original condition, I thought I would put the original factory decals back on. So, I ordered a decal package from Texas Mustang. Well, the package came with every decal you could imagine, but no instruction on exactly where they were to be placed. So, I researched and found this. This may or may not be useful info for you.

I did it a few years back, but alas these decals take their toll if you drive the car. Ya know, road dirt, grease, oil, water. etc. Here is what it looks like now (not a good pic, I know) but you get the general idea that an attempt was made.
So, this summer, it's back to the old scrape and drape routine.

glen im sure you dont want to be critisized, and i apologize for even saying any thing, but the autolite spark plug decal is supposed to be in the back of the air cleaner, i did the same mistake but was told it needed to be in the back not the side. sorry
hey but on the plus side it looks really good though, i know ur not into a the concourse mumbo jumbo but just though you might like to know... ill be expecting to get banned soon lol

depends on what years the car is? if its a early (65-66) the tab where u put your registration and such, goes directly 1 inch to the left of that, if its a car with red line tires the little sticker goes on the tab itself. For 67 on up they were about 2 inches from the tab.... please dont ask how i found this out... i seem to wonder things so i go out and do research (i have a problem im addicted to these damn cars!!)
sorry dont own a 65-66 so i cant really show u any pics.... to think of it i dont have pics of my car at all... i really need to work on that

"I wouldn't rely on a book for decal placements. There are many variations from factory to factory and even within factories. The best way is to look at unrestored cars and original owner cars. And, absolutely don't rely on the package of decals that vendors sell. For example, there is no FRONT decal on a 1968 and there isn't a curved Autolite decal on the air cleaner lid (it's rectangular and on the side). Yet, I continue to see 68s with those decals at shows. Oh, and another pet peeve of mine is owners who place the battery warning tag that came with a repro Autolite ON their battery. They did not come from the factory with that tag.
On a side note, my car came from the dealership with only one tag or notice--the visor sleeve. It didn't have tags all over the battery, radiator, etc.
If you want to see how the decals go on a 1968 Dearborn-built with a 289 check out my website. The oddity with my coupe is that the shock tower decal is on the passenger side tower, not the driver's side like all the books claim. It actually was fairly common for Dearborn cars to have that difference. The bottom line is don't rely on reference books for decals, I haven't seen one that's completely accurate yet and I won't ever, because it's impossible. "
So, there you have it. Be damned if you do, and be damned if you don't.
I have yet to see an original 65 with the decals left in place, and not weathered off. So, my decision is to go with a fairly reliable source for approximate placement. Nah, I ain't looking for a concours car. That will never happen because I drive the crap out of Old Yeller.
agreed glen, i was pointing out that through research, the decals on the air cleaner goes as i said. I have talk to many judges, and they told me that was correct for 65-67 years. IMO and of all the research i have made that is my best assumtion. I think its correct mainly because when my car was judged it never lost points for that ,and is judged, and a lot of people in the MCA ask me for paint dabs, decals placement info etc etc. Infact my budies marron 66 coupe placed his there as well and did not get any points deducted. It is imposable to determine where all the decals "should" in a sence go, but if the majority came like that, thats the best route to go. your shock tower decal in the pass side is weird to me... like i said i have a nac for digging up info so ill find the answer for you.
