Default Tank Armor

One of my winter projects is to get the gas tank protected somehow. I've been reading about tank armor, and that seems to be a relatively inexpensive way to get some steel around the tank. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/26763/
But, I was wondering if a fuel cell would be better. Does anybody have a fuel cell, and is it better (better protection) than the tank armor? http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/fsafe11.htm

Not a bad idea... I especially like the added rigidity it adds to the rear frame. I'd go for that way before I considered a fuel cell.

Are the fuel cells designed for racers? That's what I'm thinking.

Yup... and they usually require mods to the car to get them to fit right. IMO they mess up the look of the cars from the back.

You have a tough decission to make. I personally like the Armor over the cell. Olny be casue of the look. But then when you look at the defference in price...WOW!

It's added protection for the fuel tank in case of a rear end collision. There is also a steel plate you put behind the back seat to keep flames from immediately entering into the passenger chamber.

I just dropped Tank Armor into my stang. Real easy installation and much much cheaper than a fuel cell.

Well, you would hope it never happens, but if it does, that thin walled tank is virtually unprotected. I suppose if the collision is bad enough, even that armor will split open though. Just knock on wood it doesn't happen, SON!
