igniton problem

i need to replace the ignition set in my car, well im painting the dash and need to take it off first, but the only problem is that in order to take it out i need the key, which i dont have, anyone know how to take off the ignition piece so taht i can paint the dash? thanks

Welcome to the Classic Forum site, here is a link that was posted in the FAQ section at the top of the page on replacing the ignition. I have never done it so I can not be much help. Good Luck

there is a bezel around the cylinder that can twist off and you can pull it out from the rear, the Bezel (trim ring) just twists on to the front and acts as a clamp
