Default 351W

I can trade in my chevy 350, for a 351W out of a 76 pickup truck. Does anyone know what kind of power this engine had? and is it even worth getting it? thanks

good engine their. thats what i have. mine was built in 74. originally these engines but out about 290 horses and they are still a small block so almost anything that you can use on a 289/302 works with a 351W. i personally love it. when i first started it up i started to druel from the loud roar when it started followed by a nice blubbing...although there was no exhaust system past the front torque boxes.

400 hp is easily attainable, though factory was less than 300...

If it is out of a truck, you will have to change out the cam or you will be very disappointed with the power.

Truck motors are cammed for lower HP and higher torque. It will have a very low power band and it will run out of power at around 4,500 RPM.

A modest performance cam will bump up the max RPM to around 6,000 and better power. A 351W is a great motor!

Cheers…..[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

WEll guys, It turns out i cant get that motor. The guys granddad stripped the top end of the motor, and i dont need just a block. So i'll guess, ill just keep saving money, to rebuild my 289. DOes anyone think i can get 350-400 Hp normal aspirated? Im talking, 306 stroker kit, Edelbrock power package, etc.

Give him 50 bucks for the block and rotating assembly rebuild it and put the eldelbrock heads on it. It will be easier to get 350 streetable hp out of the 351.

WHAT? You're selling your Chebbie motor to buy a 351W? Well, I'll be. I thought you swore by GM 350 motors.
That 350 won't fit in your Stang anyway. May as well sell it to an unsuspecting chebbie owner.

You'd be stessing it to get that much power, a 347 stroker is another story though.
