IF you looked the Vin up, and it said it was a GT then it's a real GT.

The 65/66 cars are pretty easy to fake (owners of '67 on up can of course order a Marti Report). The "2+2" designation doesn't mean a thing either. All 65/66 fastbacks were called "2+2s." That's just in reference to the folding rear seat.
Check that steering box (your link to the KAR site provides the numbers you need). Do you have a 1" front sway bar? Did you check inside the rear frame rails for the unseen exhaust bracket? How about front disc brakes... Got those? I really think you're being a little gung-ho here. To not know a single thing about 65/66 GTs, and then declare that you're 100% sure you have one!
Please take note of the rocker panel trim clips that I already mentioned. I'm pretty sure that rules your car out.
The exaust inserts are there on both sides inside the frame rails, this can not be faked, the car has been painted, the factory color was night mist blue, it looks like the trim was put on when it was painted. Also it has the clip on master cyl lid that only came on the GT, it has the factory disc brakes, and correct wiring and switch for the fog lights. The guy I bought the car from was very possitive it was a real GT, he had a collection of Mustangs and his house was worth about 3 Mil. The car was not up for sale. He was moving the car to strorage and I found it sitting on a trailer in front of his house. We hit it off good because I pulled up in my 03 Cobra, he had two of them in the garage that where his drivers. It is an "A" code car, with a rare 3 spd option, the int. code is 63B. Can anyone tell me where to find production numbers on 66 GTs. I know there is alot of people cloning GTs, and I'm sure alot of people do not beleive I found a real one, but I did. I will be the second owner of the car. There is no doubt this is a real GT.
The code on the gear box is HCC AX. I guess I learn fast. If I was not 100% sure I would not make this statement, Do you think everyone new to this site is stupid? I have talked with Shelby guys that buy Shelbys all day long, and are very smart when it comes to these things. I'm sure they know alot more than you. Next question?
No I don't think I am being a little gun-ho, but I do think you are. As far as the bottom trim goes, take a good look, those are drill holes, not factory welded studs, the end holes look like they where put in with a die-grinder, I don't think Ford motor company would have done such a hack job. If you look REAL close, you can see where the stipe used to be! Everything on this car comes up GT, not some of it. Why would someone waste their time cloning a peice of junk anyway? Don't you think if they went to that much trouble, they would have restored the car? More likely, they would have stripped the parts off this car for another. It is very easy to identify a GT once you know what to look for. I think the brackets in the frame are a dead give away, This was ONLY done on the GT. It's pretty hard to clone that. I know the numbers will not tell you if it's a GT, but for kicks, here they are VIN:6R09A115284 BODY:63B' COLOR:K, TRIM:62, DATE:04K, DSO:71, AXLE:1, TRANS:1 I paid 3,800 for the car. For that price, it really would not have mattered if it was a GT or not, but it is!
Hey man, Calm down, and take a deep breath. I never doubted you, If you said you think it's a GT. I know people do crazy things to these cars, and adding trim is one of them. THey probably thought the chrome looked better then the strips.
S*it, I just found another 66 fastback I'm going to look at, here we go again! If I buy this one, It will be for sale on this web site, you guy's can fight over the options! P.S. I have a Running Q code 73 Mach1 for sale.

Seriously guy, chill out! Do you always rear up like this when someone questions you? If you're lucky enough to have scored a real GT for such a low price, then bully for you. But get over yourself! Do I think "every newbie is stupid?" Of course not. But I can name at least one that's pretty arrogant!
I'm being gung-ho? In what way - By cautioning you to not jump the gun? How dare I make such an asertion!
By the way Mr. '66 GT expert - the rocker trim clips were pop-riveted in place (not welded). Yes, I do indeed think that Ford Motor Company did shoddy work on these little cars. The majority of restorations are too good; far better than work Ford ever produced. And congratulations for speaking with "Shelby guys" that know a lot more than I do. May I shake your hand? I'm sure they may well know a great deal more than I do; but I have picked up a few tidbits since restoring my first Mustang 25 years ago. Sorry for trying to pass some along to someone as lofty as yourself.
Next question?
OUCH!! Sorry, I guess I took your post the wrong way. I was a little cocky, wasn't I. I do apr. the help. Things have been very crazy lately. I just got back from picking up another 66 Fastback. Lack of sleep![sm=innoc.gif]
