My first front main seal replacement
I plan on replacing it this week. I've never done one before. It's on a 68 coupe with a 302. Any helpful tips or suggestions before I get started?
Any comments appreciated. Thanks all.

It's a piece of cake. You need to rent a puller to get the harmonic balancer off first. Pry out the old seal with a seal puller or you can use a screwdriver if you're careful. Tap in the new seal and reinstall the balancer and you're done. Make sure you install the seal as straight as possible. It isn't a tight pressfit so it goes in relatively easy.
Dont forget to put some grease around the seal, and balencer. That way, you wont mess up your seal. FOR some reason, mine is leaking, and i installed it right, and everything. So now i got to pull everything back off. [:@] Oh, and if i were you, i would go ahead and replace the timing chain and gears, just for the heck of it.

Yeah, I actually installed the sleeve, nut neglected to put on the glue or whatever it is. I believe the sleeve has backed off the balencer, and probably torn up the seal.[:@]

Just get a new seal (not the whole kit) and this time use the glue
Yeah, thanks. I really dont want to pull off that timing chain cover again. If i do, im going to go ahead, and pull the intake, and cam out. Least get alittle horsepower out of the deal this time.
Since on the older one you have to pull the cover this is what I usually do. While I have the cover off I take a die grinder or dremel and remove the lip on front of the cover where the seal fits against. Then I get a later model seal that installs from the front. Then if you ever have to do it again it is much easier and the later seals, seal better. Just a little tip.
