Default Timing pointer

Went to check my timing for the first time, there is no pointer... WTF?? Anyone have a picture of a stock pointer I can take a look at? I did a search in some books and could not find anything.

It's on the right side of the timing chain cover, when looking down, and where there looks to be a busted off piece of aluminum.

What the heck. The timing pointer is cast onto the timing chain cover. There is no bolt on pointer that i know of.

Ok, Evidently, you dont have a 65-67 289 in your car. BEcause those years had a cast in timing pointer. NOw later years used the one you bought.

I think your right.. I just found out that my 289 (if its a 289 and not a 302) has 302 heads on it. I know there is a casting number under the starter area but, I think with the starter there, I will not be able to see it. Is there another way to tell if this is a 289 or a 302?

um, I dont think so. Since there are 302 heads on it, Im pretty much betting, that it is a 302, since it also has a 302 timing chain cover on it.

Ok, here is a pic of the front. Can you tell from this as to if its a 302 cover or not? Forgive the look, i'm in the middle of a re-paint...
