Default Looking to buy

I am hoping to buy a Mustang sometime this year. So far, I think I will keep it to the 65-68, with my preference being a 66. I know the standard things to look for--rust, rust, rust. But, I don't know the finer things, such as little gotchas, etc. Also, should I stay away from the 6 cylinder stangs? I know that it is preferable to get the V-8, but are there any redeeming qualities to the 6? It seems that the going price for a decent 10 footer with no serious rust issues is about $7-$10 thousand. I am in Colorado, and know that I should look for a car from a sunshine state.

I guess what I am looking for is a little advice. I have been reading some of these forums, and you guys definitely know your mustangs. So, I figured I would get as much information as I can before I take the leap.

Thanks for your help!!

Many people would agree to take a mechanic who knows about mustangs with you. and take a punch, and hammer, and go along the underside of the car, very well. look for bondo and other fillers, with a magnet.

Your right about the rust part. About all classice mustangs have some rust somewhere so dont worry bout a little rust, its repairable. Go for the v8 if you plan to restomod your mustang with a big engine and new suspension then a 6 cylinder might be ok, but a v8 is preferrable. A little trick to check for bondo is to take a magnet and run it along the wheel wells, fenders, and rockerpanels. if the magnet sticks its metal, if it doesnt its bondo. You dont want a strong magnet because it will stick to what little bit of metal. A small firdge magnet will do. Good luck with your mustang buying and dont jump on the first one you see!
