Default Need help with identifying heads

I'm in the process of doing repainting and detailing under the hood. The last owner told me it was rebuilt but did not have any details. When I took off the valve covers it was soo clean in there you could eat off it.. Anyway, the heads have these numbers on it

2F29 on one end which I think is the casting number and 302 on the other. Are these 302 heads?? I may be looking in the wrong place for the casting number..
Thanks!!!

yes its a 302 head you got, not nessarily a 302 block, but inside the head, they casted the appropriate engine size number into the head imo for better identification for replacement or for the engine assembelers.

Thats what I thought. Not sure about the block, I know the casting number is up on the underside near the starter. Which with the starter there, I may not be able to see. Is there another way to verify if its a 302 or a 289 block?

2f26 is the date code for the heads, the date code for the block is stamped on a flat boss where the block and head meet above the fuel pump.

From what I could find (which is not much) this date code 2F29 could mean "June 29, 1972"...........

Which can probably mean you have a 72 302 in your car. It could be a mustang 302 or a truck or van 302.

I would read the date that way too but am not completly sure all my books gave me were examples of how read them from the 60s. From what i can find out chamber sizes on 302 heads didnt get larger until 76 or so so those ought to give you pretty good compression. If you find a date code on the block thats later than 68 its a 302 block.
