well for no a "lot" of money you could put a cam, and a set of headers, and uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh well theres not a whole lot you can do for not a "lot" of money, to make it seem faster just ut a set of 4:11's in it, it'll seem way faster

cam shaft is what makes ur engine run. its in charge of opening and closing your valves, if you put a loopy enough cam in it to where it opens and closes the valves faster, ergo more power. 4:11 are the numerical set given to rear end gears. The higher the number the less revolution the rear end spins the wheels, if you have higher gear ratios (2:79 3:00) all those are good for are highway driving. If you want to get good off the line performance go with a 3.25 or 3.50. or a 3.73 but dont go to low because itll wrap the hell out of your engine and could possibly float the valves. A 289 out of the box with a fresh rebuil will give you nice power and torque, (mines got little add ons and im pushing 245 hp and 290torque) or at least thats what i remember Just give it a rebuild, and freshen up the tranny and rear end.

Just keep in mind, these cars are old, and take time to build, you cant expect them to run like rape dates right when you get them, unless there already done. If you are impatient, this cars isnt for you. Take your time, if not sell the car to someone who appreciates it enough and go get yourself a fox body mustang or a newer mustang

It sounds like you will be having someone else do the labor???...labor will be more than the parts

Headers are not too expensive and aren't hard to install so you could maybe do those yourself...

Why would they only last a couple of months. Somebody was just pulling your chain. Well, If you get ceremic coated headers, and crack them, then all the ceremic would come off. Thats about the worse thing that can happen to them.
