Bigger 302 valves?
Ive decided to rebuild my 302, and have edelbrock performer package(minus the heads) on it and was just wondering if buying bigger valves for my stock heads is the way to go, the stock size i have on now is 1.78" intake and 1.45" exaust. Anyone know what size valves I should get if i want to go bigger, or is it even going to make a noticeable difference. Oh and how much would the valve job cost to make the seats bigger? Anyone whos used this setup? Thanks guys.
im not sure about how large you can go on the heads you have. but to get mine cut for 2.02/1.60" valves and a 3 angle valve job it was going to cost about 700, not including parts. i am going to get a set of after market iron heads with 2.08/1.60" for slightly more money.
you should call a couple machine shops local to you and ask them about prices and what they can do for sizes.

From what I understand, that if your small block is built on the mild side and more for the street, that anything over 1.94" on the intake side is always going to make you lose power.
I am completely against doing this kind of mod. When you turn yourself over to the mercy of the machinest it can tend to be trouble. For that kind of money you almost have enought to get a set of Trick Flow aluminum heads. They are lighter. they have the big valves. They are ported and ready to slap on. I have done 2 sets and have had great luck with them. Got them for about $800 a set.
Yah Ive decided to get rid of my stock heads and go for some aluminum ones like edelbrocks performers to go along with my engine rebuild once i sell my jeep. Just seems more logical to go aluminum. Anyone know of a little cheaper brand of aluminum heads other than edelbrocks(1100-1200$$) im only 17, work part time and make minimum wage so i have a budget... thanks for the info guys.
