What does the "Z" in the serial mean? Usually it's just 6 numbers right?

Don't know. That's just the unit number anyway, and gives you no real information about the car.. Maybe Ford decided to manufacture the Nissan Z cars at that time. [sm=alcoholic.gif]

I suspect that the Z is actually a 2... or much less likely a 7. The last six digits is the sequence number of the vehicle in production order . Starting at 100,001 Ford numbered their cars in order. 100,001 is the first car of that body line for that particluar year. Mercury started at 500,001 is the reason that I suspect the Z is not a 7 and much more likely to be a 2. Hope this helps, Dean

allright...i've got another problem then........
i pulled the door panel off and looking at my year one catalog, it says that it's a 1970 model with a standard interior. There's also old Boss 302 decals on the front fenders, right behide the wheelwell.
-Is is possible for a 1970 door panel to fit on a 1972?? How about a 1972 door on a 1970 car??

Help please???

Where did you get that number from? If it is off the door panel, and you are trying to figure out which year door you have, I know of no decoder for doors. The 1 indicates a 1971 though.

i got the number off off the dash.....
i'm just getting confused/excited cause it's got a mach one (style anyways) hood, spoiler. --door panels from a 1970. the interior doesn't match the door's data plate as far as color/options, and the gas cap is cabled on (looks factory), and i don't think it's the one that was on 1971.......
the boss 302 decals on the front fenders look EXACTLY like the Boss 351 decals for 1971........
i'm just really interested to see what the heck this car actually is.......
