Default timing belt and muffler

I have a question, I have n straight 6 on a 68 and yesterday I THINK my timing chain broke. But also this happened
my muffler So I was wondering if the timing chain breaking is related to my muffler (for the lack of better words) exploding.

Your motor has a timing chain, not a belt. And yes, the exploded muffler could be the result of a backfire caused by a slipped chain.

Thats not too good. Hopefully it didn't tear anything else up. I think the 289 is ok, because when the chain breaks, it does jam the valves on top of the pistons. Im assuming it's not running anymore?

It sounds like it does normally when you start it up but it doesnt go anywhere after that, it just keeps turning over.

Don't turn it over any more. You'll bend things.

Hold on, so your saying it's running? and doesn't move anywhere. YOu sure your tranmission doesn't have a problem? How did you conclude that your timing chain broke? If it's broke, it wouldn't run, unless, the chain is intact, and the gears are stripped.

I had to read it twice, but he said it only turns over.

Oh ok. Yeah, Then dont keep turning it over. I dont know much about the I6, but im guessing it's still ok. as long as you dont hear metal knocking together in there when it's turning over.
