Default Buying a Rally Pack

I have a 66 coupe with a 289 V8. I'm looking to buy a rally pack for it.
Do i need a 6000 rpm tacho or a 8000 rpm.
Does anybody have a clue ?

doesnt really matter what you throw in there, the 8,000 taches were intended for 289 hipo's and the 6,000 for reg a codes and c codes (289 4v and 289 2v) Neither motor could ever (or shojuld ever be reached) at 8,000, it was more to show the buyer a hotter motor. But if you throw a 8,000 in it will work the same, but IMO, i would just throw a 6 in there, just becasue theres no need for a higher rpm tach than that for these old poneys

the 65 versions are the lower profile and have little visual changes from the 66. The 66 version is the higher profile pod, and is the correct one for your car. Remember, they case should be painted to the color of the interior, they will come in black crinkle, however, i personally like them left black, but just a little not to keep in mind

But a 64-65 fits on a 66 ? I mean ... there is no difference in steering colum size etc ...
whats the advantage of a higher profile pod ?

I can buy a 64-65 for a bargain price .... so if the difference isnt so big ... maybe its best to go for the 65 one ? Or should i leave this bargain where it is ?

well 64 65 had the rectangular gauges, you remeber the old long ones, so in order for the driver to be able to see the speedo as well as the tach, the lower profile was used, whereas the 66 came with the large circle speedo in the center as well as the 4 little gauges on the sides, so a higher profile could be used. There is no diff in the steering columns, so you can use which ever you want to, but if you want the correct style and look of the original go with the 66 higher profile version. If you put the lower one on, it may be harder to see. There is a plus to the new style repo though, the old style ones have no lights inside them so driving at night was a no go for the tach useage, but the new ones already come with the new pods as it is, really a good bargine

That is a '65 rally pac. Low profile and not the right one for a '66, but will work. I got a brand new Scott Drake high profile for my '65 for $369. I too just went with a 6k rpm because an 8k is a waste - won't ever run my modified 289 over 5k.
