Default Good Resto Rod.

My dad had said something the other day about buying a old car and restoring it. So hes got me thinking about it. I was wondering what i should look for in a resto rod, what years of mustang have the most readily available part supply. I would love to get a fastback, but im not sure what years were the best, and i want it to have a badass engine in it to start with that i could restore and use.

65-67. Fastback. If you want big engines, get a 67, they have bigger engine compartments.

Come on now----351 isn't a big motor it easily fits in the 65-6.

When someone says 67 cause it fits the big motors...they are talking big blocks...390, 428, 429

Those puppies just don't go into 65-6 without a lot of work.

I like the styling of the 67 mustangs the best (in fact it was my first mustang) however, I really enjoy the weight/HP ratio I have managed to put together with the 408c in my 65 fastback.

youre talking about the s-code and the shelbys right? Cause im pretty sure you cant fit any of those engines into a standard fastback engine bay without mods to the shock towers.

No I am talking 67 engine area compared to 65/6.
The three engines I named fit into 67 mustang engine compartment. Whether or not you add the reinforcements to the shocktowers (Which is essentially angle iron welded on top of stock shock towers to over simplify it) the engine bay size is the same and the motors physically fit between the stock shock towers. My bro ran a 69 429 motor out of a t-bird in a 68 coupe for a little while it was fun.

The biggest motor that ford makes will go into a 67-8 with no mods to the towers.

I didn't say that a 351 is really big....just what I want .....I'd love a 429 but it wouldn't be practical for my daily driver

Don't know about a cammer there soaring. Never been privledged enough to get to install one of those. Not really a factory ford motor though. I do know the 68's came with 428's and those are the same size as a 460. I have worked on quite a few big block 67-8's and I can tell you it is not that much fun until you get to test drive them.
