thats what im talking about....can i just drain the fluid, take off the drive shaft, unbolt the current rear the bolt that one in and hook up the shaft and fill with some fluid and good to go or is it way more complicated than that?

Yeah it's harder. It must be shimed right, and the bearing gap checked. Otherwise you'll end up messing up the gears sooner or later.

Don't forget to pull the axles out several inches.

If you get a carrier (pumpkin) that is ready to go it is almost that easy. Jack up the car. Pull the back tires and drums off. Unbolt four bolts from each axel and slide them our about 6 inches. Take all the bolts out from around the carrier, drain the fluid and drop it out. Clean up the lube that is left in the housing and then put is all together. Make sure you use fluid that is made for a posi rear end.

That part number is for a 9" differential. Unless you have a 9" rear it isnt going to work. Also swaping differentials will require gear setup, including bearing preload, backlash, and possibly a pinion depth adjustment. If you dont know what you are doing, dont try it at home. It will result in some wasted gears. The 9" is the easiest rear end to set up, but also the easiest to screw up.

Swapping out an entire centersection is easy, just like the guys said in this thread already. Putting a posi in an open rear is a bit more involved.

The easiest???? Pull out yer carrier and weld yer spider gears together. That will make it a posi real quick.

Ya that welding thing turns it into a spool, not a posi, posi you can still go around corners, spool? ya right... it would be chatter city.
