Default engine

I'm not going to tell you the story of my last enine, and im sure youve all answered this question a million times, but bottom line i am looking for a new one. Because I dont have a garage to store an endless amount of parts, I am going to have a shop do it. becuase of this same reason I'm not going to go out and buy a parts car. I'd really like to get some sort of a crate engine. 289, or 302. Ive been looking but i dont even know where to start. I want something simple, and every thing i look at is boasting performance parts and at least 275hp... which i dont think is what 302s came with from the facotry. I really just need to know what to look for and some advice on where to look. As of now i am just looking for an engine, im not worried about all the extra parts you need to do the swap. Any advice would be great.

You can start with the yellow pages. Look up engine rebuilders, call around and see if any one in your area has what you need. A lot of your parts stores can sell you a rebuilt engine with a warranty. Parts stores like Kragen, Auto Zone, Pep Boys or Checker will usually have engines. I don't really like these kinds of stores but I use them when I have to.

I would recomend a 5.0L crate engine. You can get them from Ford, or Jegs or whomever really. Sure it will cost you more than doing it yourself, but like you said, time and space wont allow it.

If you want to get a shortblock, they can be had for around $1200. Add some good heads, a mild cam, your old intake and you are up and running.

The 302's came with 220 HP, and there are a lot of sites that sell remanufactured engines that meet factory specs. Google remanufactured or rebuilt instead of crate. Many of them offer free shipping.
