Default fuel gauge short?

newbie here. i've been having a problem with my fuel gauge in my 67 coupe and was wondering he anyone could help. maybe once a month it will kick on ( usually at about a quarter tank) and register but as soon as i turn off the key it quits working again. i've checked the wires from the tank and pulled the tank and checked the sender. could it be a short?

Default RE: fuel gauge short?

It might be the float sticking, or the sending unit itself. Ground the sending unit on the frame and see if the fuel gauge pegs. If not, then that would be your culprit.
