The air gap between the Ignitor module and the magnet ring must fall between .010-.060-inch.

The pertronix module comes with a clear plastic gauge. Use that to determine the space. If you don't have one, get back.

i changed my distributor and forgot to check the gap before i transfered it to the new one. it was allready installed in the old one when it was given to me so i don't have the instructions or the plastic gauge. i set it at .030 but i wanted to make sure it was right.

That's right. I just went out in the garage and read my instruction sheet, and it says to set it at 0.030 which is the thickness of the plastic gauge.
