Mounting battery relocation???
Ok, Im looking at buying a Taylor battery relocation for my 67. Im restoring my 67 and I figure I might as well do it right the first time and Im putting a 351 up front so thats a bit of weight and space involved there. If Im looking to mount it on the right side, id have to go on that little hump part. I could use the spare tire hole for one of the rods, but for the second I would have to drill. Ok, now below the hump is the frame. Is it ok to be drilling through the frame of the car? There is few other options on area in the trunk as you know, any help?
On my 69, I put it on the drivers side to keep my spare tire situation stock. I drilled 2 holes thru the trunk floor, missing the frame and used fender washers on both sides of the sheet metal. I just used a plastic battery box...nuthin fancy.
Hmmmm, Im not gonna worry about a spare so Id be best for me to do it on the passenger...I was just curios if it was ok to be drilling a small hole in the frame...
If you are talking about a hole as big as a battery cable, I would re-think that if I were you. Why not just run the cable through the back seat area and along the passenger side doorsill on the inside to the firewall?
No, not for the cable, for the mounting bracket.... look here

those two bars need to go through something solid and I think uses nuts on the other side to latch it down...

Gotcha"......No, I don't see any reason why going through the frame rail would hurt. I would use fender washers and then seal it as much as possible to keep water and dirt out of the inside of the rail. Better still, why not go on either side of the frame rail with the bolts, then use a flat piece of steel to tie them together on the bottom? That way, you wouldn't have to drill a hole in the frame rail.
I guess that will work too. I need to buy it first and then play around with it for awhile. I was just thinking the other way becase I could use the spare tire hole and only need to drill one more hole, but having to drill 2 could be better if I could avoid the frame I guess.
I also have to replace a section of the frame becuase my car was in a rear end accident apparently and the frame has a "gash" in it. Ill get some pics if I can.
And I alreadyt have the section, it came with the car...

I have a plastic box in my truck on my 67. I drilled four holes, two on each side of the frame rail. Worked fine. I would really think about things before I put an aluminum battery box in though. Aluminum is going to corrode like crazy from the battery. I would think that plastic would be your best choice. Mine is on the passengers side also.
