Coldest cruising weather?
Isn't there a recommended temperaturewhen not to put your top down? I thought it was 50-60 degrees. After spending $1,000 replacinga top this summer, my mother is pretty careful about its care.
Here in Tampa I'm more likely to have the top up due to heat (when in business clothes). No rain= top down. It rarely gets below 40*F here, so the top stays down on principle, to the dismay of gawking onlookers.
Back in Wash. D.C. Md. area, my friends and I (at least 6 of us) would traditionally drop the top on my '72 LTD conv.,wear silly warm hats, light cigars, play funk music and go cruising during the first (at least)real snowfall each year. Those are memories I cherish of a tradition I really don't miss!

I have no heat in my vert. Actually I have no venting ducts behind the dash because of the cage. I will drop the top if it is above 50. Other then that I have to rely on the heat coming from the trans and motor to keep me warm. It kinda sucks.
If you put the top down when it's below the recommended temps, you are cutting the life expectancy of your top. I have been told they normally last 5-7 years if taken care of. More if they are garaged.
Good question. I am clueless if it does affect the material or not. Of course, I would think it will under extreme low temps, but heck...didn't I just saw a penguin driving a vert? No, sorry. I was wrong. It was one of you guys who go topless with the temp is under 50! Yeap, call me thin skin or whatever.
