I had one window with that problem. There is a plastic gear inside the motor that is probably shot, I've had that problem with both my mustang and a Bronco II I had, hope this helps, its a pain in the *** to replace but worth it.
I have found a very simple solution to the problem as I have had this issue in 4 of my ford cars including my 88 Vert. If you remove the window motor, pull the cover off, where the gear is.. you will see probably the remnants of the plastic little cylinders ford puts in the motors to make them work.. unfortunately, they eventually give way and basicly become crumbled garbage. So what you do, is cleanout all the old sludge and replace all 3 of those cylinders with metal nuts (you put the nuts in where the gear has indents. There is a perfect comon size that works.. Im not posive of the size, I think its about a 3/8 or 10mm nut.. very common, that you should have in your house. You cantell if they are the right size if they fitinwithlittle slop. Throw those in with a little grease inthere and you will be good to go. I just did this to my bronco II window motor yesterday.. its free, and last forever (well until the motor actually craps out). If all else fails.. I have 2 rear window motors I can sell ya.[sm=yeahsmile.gif]
This is what you need. Simply take the motor out, take the cover off, and you should see the reminants of the old bushings. there are three in each motor, and they are a little bit of a pain to get the new bushings back in (Took me like five minutes for each one). This can easily be done in 30 mins or so, and will save you alottta money. I did it sitting indian style on the driveway, but if you had a table and the like it would be super easy.

I opened it all up and put it all back but don't want to open it back up unless I am pretty sure I can find what you described.
This is the best thing I could find as far as a picture, and it isn't much. Basically you take off the cover, and then inside there is literally only one logical place for the three bushings to go. It has been over a year since I replaced mine, but it was pretty simple. It is a triangle inside a circle set-up if I remember correctly, with the three open spots being for the bushings.
