Default Roll bars

I do not feel very safe in my 2006 Mustang GT convertible in case of a roll over. Therefore I am thinking of installing a roll bar. I found a company in California (Autopower Industries, www.autopowerindustries.com) that produces such roll bars. Their roll bar code (for 2005 and up convertible Mustangs) is 71272.

A light bar would look nicer than the Autopower roll bar but I was told that light bars do not provide protection in case of a roll over.

My questions:

1. Does the windshield frame provide any roll over protection?

2. Can the combination of a light bar with the windshield frame provide any roll over protection?

3. Can anybody recommend other roll bars for 2005 and up convertible Mustangs, on top of the ones manufactured by Autopower Industries?

Thanx

There is another roll bar thread a few down from this. Some of the posts mention other makes.

Realistically, what are the chances of you needing a roll bar? How aggressively do you drive? Or do you race on a track?

Like anything else in life, there are dangers. If you believe you really need one, get the best you can afford. As for me, I accept the risk of not having one.

BTW, the Volvo C70 convertible's windshield frame is supposed to support the car in case of a rollover as well as it's other safety bars. I know the windshield fame on my '04 wouldn't handle the weight...it's mostly plastic.

I had the same concerns with my Vert. I got the lightbar instead, I got it from classic design concepts. It feels pretty strong now that is installed on the car, I don't think I would want to test out the strength of it though. They did say it is not a suppliment to a roll-bar. Thecar felt alot stiffer though once it was on.

To be sold in the U.S., all convertibles must have either a factory roll bar or a windshield pillar strong enough to with stand rollover testing. Therefore, your windshield pillars are supposed to be strong enough to provide protection. At least that's what I've read. Me, I installed a custom roll bar. LOL!

If you do it and you do race at the track it would be best to just get what your track spec's are for roll cages after a certain ET that way you can think ahead.

Yea I'd think the factory windshield frame needs to be able to provide some measure of rollover protection or they wouldn't be able to sell the car in North Amaerica.. At least I HOPE that's the case!

& adding a rollbar would make the back seat even more useless than it already is [&:] ...pass
