your lift cylinder might be bad. one of the seals could be worn and broken, and not allowing it to build up pressure to move the top. can you raise/lower the top by hand??

if you can raise and lower it by hand then there is prob something wrong with the lift cylinder. it should have built up pressure in it and not really allow it to move. check to make sure everything is hooked up right, or it could be something inside the cylinder.

Ok, I'll look into it. I did put it down easily. Lifting it up was a little more difficult.

the mounting pivots on the lift cylinders are made out of plastic that gets brittle with age

look behind the 1/4 panels, in the back seat ,with the top up to see if the pivots are secured to the frame if they are the fluid has leaked out somewhere or the pump isnt making any pressure

Ok, The cylinders seem to be attached ok. the lines also feel tight. I used to have a nissan 240sx convertable, and I could see fluid in the lines. On my Mustang I really don't see it. I assume the lines are probably the same. Where do I check the fluid? is it the phillips head screw on top of the pump? The revs up real good. Sounds like it may be empty. When I hold the button it seems to spin faster and faster.
Thanks alot,
Joe
