2005-8 Convert issues?
None on my end and I have only seen one issue across several forums in which a guy had a problem with a couple small puncture like tears on the inside (all cosmetic).
I also have the cloth top which I think looks a ton better than the vinyl and probably is more robust as well.

Hello there,
I am just trying to look for some help. I have a 2005 Mustang GT convertible (38K miles), which I enjoy very much. But I am having two minor problems with it:
- The rear window defroster is not working. One of the defrosters hooks fell off. Took to the dealer and they could not fix it. They said the whole top needs to be changed! I thought that recommendation was crazy.
- The Gas Tank Gauge sometime goes to completely E (although it's full) and it turns Red. This happens on and off. And this I believe made the Check Engine Light to turn off.
Have you ever had or heard of any of these problems? Do you have any advices.
Money is very tight right now and any sincere help/advice is very much appreciate it.
Thanks a lot,
mr

I had posted on door glass dragging on the top. There are some TSB's on the arms and a few other issues. My top has been replaced twice because the top shop that the dealer was using had chimps with wrenches doing the work instead of qualified pesonnel. The last time they touched it they left all kinds of bolts loose, cross threaded a main bracket bolt and did not align it properly. Since the dealer didn't know and didn't work on tops they were clueless. My suggestion is, if you have to get the top serviced, insist that they call you during the replacement before they remove the top (kick panels and seats out) and just prior to them putting it back together (kick panels and seats). Once it is back together, you'll always wonder if they tightened all the bolts and put everything back right. My car went to the top shop about 5 times and they couldn't get it right. I spent 2 hours start to finish and fixed their screw up. All in all be on the lookout for the top binding in the quarter area on the lower arm. You may have to put some of the fuzzy velcro tape over the arm where the lower bow cable connects. I found this to be an area that will cut the top (thus the reason for the top being replaced the second time). Both tops replaced under warranty at a cost to Ford. I was told the tops cost about $2000 each. I was able to stop the door glass drag problem with some simple adjustments to the rail over the door where the top attaches. Now it works fine.
Contact a glass shop and ask them if it is possible to re-attatch the electric lead. I remember a while back seeing a pen that fixed broken traces for the defroster so there may be something like that available to re-attach that. The other issue may be a loose wire or bad ground. If you live in an area that salts the roads during the winter, you may have a bad connection on the fuel sending unit. That is where I would start. Also see if you can find a wiring diagram on the fuel system. A diagram can show you where the wires go from the fuel pump/sending unit all the way back to the computer. The fuel sending unit could be going bad too. I've only had one go bad on one of my vehicles and it was almost 13 years old but since everything is made cheaper and out of the country, there is no telling.

I am having a problem with my top too... the tethers have stretched out I think because the frame is misaligned, now the top does not fold down right and my vinyl is starting to have tears in it, my service rep gives hints of them knowing a problem and a tsb about it, but isn't doing anything about it.
