Default possibly buying a 99 gt convertible with bad top

I'm possibly buying one that needs a new top. According to www.cjponyparts.com they are relatively inexpensive. I was wondering if it took much to put them on? I'm a diy guy myself so I'll be planning on doing it myself if that helps at all.

Hey that's pretty good if the original top lasted 11 years! Sure you can try installing a new top yourself, just don't be overconfident in your abilities.. if the final install is all wrinkly or leaks,, who ya gonna blame?

You can google installation instructions.. do you have all the needed tools?

you can get a good quality top with rear curtain for less than $500. the install is kindof a PITA though. I installed the one on my 94 a couple years ago and would gladly pay the extra $3-400 to have someone else put it on next time. Its not too complicated, but its just a very time consuming process and there is very little margin for error.

Id rather blame myself than someone else, but I like getting the experience with these things. No I don't have all the tools for it. I appreciate the advice I'll keep it in mind. The car would be less than 5000. I have a gt now and I would like to keep the miles down cause of the 35th edition. The one I'll be looking a has 140 thousand miles on it. It doesn't bother me cause id like to rebuild the motor anyway.

yeah, i understand how that goes. and as far as tools, you dont really need anything special. the majority of the work is pulling out old staples and putting in new ones, so you def want a good heavy duty stapler and some good needle nose pliers.
