S197 Vert latch rattle / alignment?
Been battling a rattle in passenger side top latch area for a year. Can't fix it. Have put felt, etc in the area and cannot track it down. Makes noise mostly at slower speed over uneven pavement. Get better as I speed up - maybe increased air pressure secures it then? Cannot duplicate it sitting still by flexing or moving top by hand.
One thing I see is that to small metal post on the top/frame doesn't fit into the little hole at the corner of the window frame. When the top is raised, the post bangs into the plastic trim receiver piece to the right/top of the hole. It does slide into the hole when the latch is pulled closed however. So I'm thinking this misalignment somehow is causing noise within the latch assembly or inside the post/hole. I put some padding in the hole but it didn't work.
Is there anything that can be done about the aligment? I'm pretty sure the post always quietly fit into the hole but not anymore.
Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I have the same issue. I just put the top down and it goes away.
All kidding aside, mine is on the driver side and I swear it is the handle axel. By this I mean the pivot point that rotates the handle from being flat to pointing down prior to turning and opening the latch.

I'll have to look at that area closer. I know the noise goes away when I rotate/un-latch the handle. Thanks for the info.

there was a tsb on a rattle in the top that seamed to be coming from the latch area.
The problem was a cable running down the sides of the top that when it hit metal it would amplify through the latch. The new cables have a plastic sleeve over them to stop the noise. I never had it fixed just turned up the radio.

I had the same problem on the passenger side up around the latch area on my 09 Convertible. Drove me up the wall as I cannot stand that sort of noise. Mine turned out to be the sun visor. I added a piece of rubber to extend the rubber bumper for the sun visor and my noise went away. TRY lowering the sun visor on that side and see if it goes away. Good luck!

I dont think mine is the visor. It seems to be creaky springs in the latch. Will try some WD40 in the mechanism when it warms up. If that doesent work, i may buy new latches @ $130 from local dealer.
Ill post with success / fail info.
