Convertible top replacement - what's needed?
Hello, I have a 1993 Mustang LX 5.0 convertible and am about to replace the top; however, I do not have the old top on the vehicle. I bought it without the top. It is in a garage presently and I will put a temp top on it to get it home.
I know I need a staple gun, contact cement, basic tools (no problem there) and possibly tacking strips. Can anyone give me some pointers as to what brands work best for this as far as the contact cement and staple gun?
Also, will I need to get measurements off of a Mustang with the top on already in order to adjust the new top on install?
Thanks,
-MTS

I have had a top from convertibletopguys.com for over a year now and I still have not found the time or patience to fully put the top on. My poor stang lives under several tops and a car cover. I bought from convertibletopguys because the top brand was good and it came with pretty much everything I needed to do a top replacement with. It comes with stainless steel staples, but they fit a 22gauge, and those are pretty expensive...until I looked on ebay. These are professional upholstery guns, and I was able to pick one up, well used, for about 25 bucks shipped and it was a brand that I could get some internal parts for (I believe it was a Beau or something like that) in case it ever broke on me. I even picked up 10k staples on amazon for it in case I feel like upholstering something.
This is the third top on the car and it needed pads, strips, everything. Also, a rivet tool is needed to install the tack strips in. Their are a few things I think I may need to replace that I can not find a replacement for. Good luck and take some pics and such for me
