do any of you guys know of a good detailing place where i can get my car claybared and waxed and get my paint looking good again in jersey? around the burlington area if you guys are from jersey. thanks

 

Why do you need to get it wet sanded? You shouldnt have to do that. If I were you, I would claybar the car and give it a wax job myself. Alot cheaper.

 

yea thats what i ment my bad. i tryed to wax it myself but it didnt come out to good. but havnt tried claybaring it. all i have is a electric buffer that i got from walmart or somthing that isnt too good and dont have alot of money to spend. maybe ill try to clay bar it before i take it someplace. my paint is pretty ruff when i run my hand over it. the former owner had it sitting outside and it was covered in salt in ny. any ideas that dont cost a fortune?

 

The claybar will remove the roughness. Its really awesome how they work. After doing that and a wax job you will be impressed with the result. Good luck.

 

do you have any pointers? how long do i let the wax sit on the car before i buff it off? and where is a place i can get a claybar? what do i use for lube? srry soo many questions but im new to all the detailing

 

You can get the claybar just about anywhere that sells car cleaning products. First I wash the car really good. Then using the clay I keep the car wet in the area im working in, rub the clay across the area im working in while spraying the area with water at the same time. Then keep moving around the car untill im finished. Then dry and wax. When I wax, I start with the hood, roof, and trunk. Then I go around the car. After the car is covered with wax, I start taking the wax off where I started the application. Easy task.

 

you can just buy a clay bar kit at autozone or somewhere like that for like $15 and it comes with the clay, the spray detailer(lube), and a little bottle of wax usually. It isnt hard to do, just make sure you clean the car real good first and dry it like normal, then just pick a place to start and spray a little of the detailer (always been told not to use water) on there and just gently rub back and forth. You will hear it picking up the junk out of the paint. When it gets smooth in that place, just wipe all the excess detailer off and move to the next spot until the whole car is done. Then when you move to the wax just pick a spot to start at and wax it, try and wax it in the shade if possible. When you get all the way around the car, the spot where you started should be dry and ready to remove, it will look really white and chalky, that means its dry. Just take a towel and rub the wax off, and dont use too much pressure, and when you get all the wax off you can go back over it with a microfiber towel and make sure you have it buffed out real good and all the wax out of the cracks.

 

ryan1994, just to let you know, water is just as good as the spray you get with the claybar. When the claybar first came out we had a demonstrator come to the body shop I worked in and he used water and said it is a cheaper way of using the claybar which is fine. This way dont have to keep buying the spray and works just as good. Just keep applying water and you`ll be fine.
