Default Paint or Decal stripes?

I went to a bodyshop getting estimates for paint/decal stripes for my 04 stang. The owner recommends i get them painted, says they'll last longer. I trust his opinion (i saw 2 jaguars, 2 bmws, 2 mercedes in the garage, so he must be doin someting right), but i want to know what you guys think.

His estimate for 2 black stripes is $1000, the deal would be off the books since he's a friend of a friend. He would be doing all the work, i drop it off, and just pick it up a few days later.

This a good deal, or should I reconsider. My car came with the 99/'01 Cobra heat extractor hood, if it matters.

I'd go to another shop, price seems pretty high.

The paint is the beter option. Nothing against vinyl, but painting it (as long as it's a good paint job) is simply the better way to go.

I have vinyl stripes, and the one good thing about those is that if you're unsure if you will like them, they peel right off with a source of heat. They were MUCH cheaper also-- since I did them myself especially. However, if you like the look, paint is a much better option as it is permanent.

My car will be paid off in about a year and I may opt to paint them on. I love mine!

Paint! I have decal, and it is fine, but if you can afford paint, do it.

Gotta say, 1000 sounds cheap to me; my estimates were all in the 1500 - 2000 range, including clear coat and all that.

I chose vinyl because it was less expensive and if i ever wanted to change the color it is easier.
