Default 3 Detailing Questions

car: 2005 v6 premium

1: white mark on my cloth seat, not grease or anything, just some kind of powder or something that was worked into my seat... isn't coming out with wet cloth.

2. Removing wax from vinyl around doors etc.

3. I went to a bodysshop today and they gave me a 3000 grit orbital pad for free (used but still useable). Can I use this by hand (is it just made to spin or can I just use it like normal sandpaper?)?

For the upholstery, you might try a vacuum with a gentle brushing to help lift it out. Quite possibly at this point you might need some upholstery cleaner to help remove it from the fabric. Of course you want to be careful with any brushing on delicate fabric with a pattern like you have. Check out www.detailguide.com's interior section if you need a little guidance. You might want to clean the whole panel for a uniform look. I do like the Mothers Carpet & Upholstery cleaner, but similar methods would apply to most products out there.

For the wax buildup on the vinyl decal, try some instant detailer sprayed on a microfiber polishing cloth and follow the lines of the decal. If necessary, use a soft pantbrush and carefully follow the lines, and wipe with the instant detailer. Doing a good wipe in these areas with a clean cloth after waxing will help remove that will still moist -- before it turns chalky white. Usually it's the polishes in your product that turn white.

For the pad...what is it you want to do with it?

This works great to remove the wax residue.

Aaah... the trim... I was so busy looking at the decal that I neglected the trim.

What works best for me is to dress the trim before you start claying or waxing... any slips or slings will usually come right off.

Your trim looks a little dry, and I find that Back-to-Black works real good on making dry trim like this deepen in color and look like new. Sometimes a couple of applications, with a light buff after the last works best. Use a light dressing to maintain the look.

Try a little soapy water on the spot, if that doesn't work try an upholstrey cleaner. This is going to sound crazy but to remove the sling use Mr. Clean's Magic eraser or a pencil eraser. Works on my trim all the time.

yeah, or if you take the time to tape the car off it helps too.
